Results for 6th July

The holiday fortnight was reflected in a low turnout of 13 players. The scoring was also low with 3 players tied on 14 points. David Wallace's recent good form saw him take the honours after countback with Eric Ward and Steve Baczkowski inseparable on second place. Bill Hardcastle was nearest at 7.

Putt of The Day: From the bunker on the left of the third green Roger Key's ball ended up some 100+ feet from the third hole on the far end of the seventh green. Roger then putted to 6 inches from the hole-the third that is. Impressive stuff.

We will play for the Ken Bowie salver on the 20th July. 5 club competition.

Results for June 28th

condition with the greens a joy to miss putts on. Scoring was wide ranging with 16 points popular. The winner, however, was Ian Tate with 20 points continuing his recent good form with Alister Lambie coming second on 18 points. Ian was also nearest at the 7th while Brian Robson holed a massive putt to birdie the first.

Results for 22nd June

Another warm summer's morning welcomed 18 players with an interesting range of shorts and knees on display. David Wallace's recent good form continues as does his rivalry with Ian Tate, both players returning 20 points, David edging the countback again to take second place behind Bill Hardcastle who scored 21 points.

Ian did birdie the 9th while Graham Mackie was nearest the pin at the 7th.

Results for 15th June

Not only was the weather hot so was the scoring with 4 players scoring 20 or more points. David Wallace and Ian Tate both hit 23 points with David taking the honours on countback. Several players scored in the high teens. Birdies were logged by Ian Tate, Ken Davie, Bill Hardcastle, David Ward-Gittos and George Langlands who was also nearest at the 7th.

The groundstaff have certainly risen to the challenge not to lose the course to the prolonged hot/dry spell.

For interest, I am posting this from the 8th Tee at Southern Dunes Golf Course in Arizona. The wonders of technology. Also I just birdied the 7th for 3 points! ( David Wright)

June 8th Results

20 players faced a somewhat chilly easterly wind with several underdressed for the cold start to the morning. The recent dry spell has also created fast greens and hard fairways increasing the distance run by the balls and the challenge of controlling shots. Rising to the challenge were Richard Edmonds and Eric Ward who both returned 21 points with Richard taking the honours on countback. Tony Kinder was nearest at 7.

Shot of the day came at the 8th where Gordon Fisher holed for a par from some 70 yards having visited the burn with his drive.

Results for June 1st

A perfect day for golf on a beautifully prepared golf course tempted 25 starters today.

We have finally begun to play well and our scores reflected that.

A clear winner on 25 points was Glasgow University's finest, John Cairns.

Second was George Tucker, one of the oldest TAMS, who celebrated his birthday with 20 points.

Backed up behind our winners were many player on 19, 18 and 17.

Ken Davey continued his return with his customary birdie on the 9th and Brian Robson was nearest on the 7th and he converted his tee shot for a birdie.

Jim Pettigrew has been seen in the clubhouse and we hope to see him back with us when he is able.

Results for May 25th

At last a warm  sunny morning which attracted 20 players.

The golf course is in excellent condition and our scores begin to reflect that.

Keith Ackerman won with 19 points and Brian Taylor pipped Bill Hardcastle on countback for second place with 18 points.

We welcomed Ken Davey back after injury and he celebrated with a birdie on the 5th.

Ian Tate had a birdie on the 4th and John Forsyth was nearest on the 7th.

We send our best wishes to Jim Pettigrew who is laid up at home.

Jim, we hope to see you for coffee when you are able.

Results for May 18th

Disappointingly only 13 players turned up on a pleasant morning for golf. Pleasant that is till you found yourself in the lush first cut of rough trying to get out.

4 players however rose to the challenge scoring 17 points. After countback the winner was Gordon Fisher with Melvin Cannell and Brian Robson joint second, John Varney missing out on a place. Brian Taylor was again nearest at 7.

News 11th May

21 players competed for Roddy McAlpine's Gavel the result of which will be declared at the Xmas lunch.

Birdies there were none but Wilson Struthers celebrated a birthday by being nearest the pin at 7.

Results for 4th May

25 players braved a very chilly easterly wind to find the course in very good condition. Graham Mackie, Jim Walker and George Langlands all returned 19 points with Graham taking the honours on countback and Jim coming second. David Forsyth birdied 4 while Brain Taylor was nearest at 7 for the second week running.

Next week is a 5 club competition for Roddy's Gavel.

Results for 27th April

20 players experienced another chilly 'spring' morning. Gordon Fisher improved on last week's second place taking first with 21 points. Wilson Struthers was second on 18 points following a countback with Tony Kinder. Brian Taylor was nearest at 7.

We will be playing for the Roddy McAlpine gavel on 11th May which is a 5 club competition.

Results for 20th April

25 players welcomed a lovely spring morning. Scoring was much improved reflecting the pleasant conditions. Runner up on 22 points was Gordon Fisher, recently returned from the Antipodes, while with 23 points Alister Lambie took the honours having recovered from delivering 1200 lambs with his team. Graham Mackie was nearest at 7 which Wilson Struthers birdied.

Congratulations to David Forsyth who achieved his first hole in one playing in the Strathmore Senior Gents Open last Friday. David also won the longest drive competition in his age category. Good shooting!

Results for 13th April

Despite a poor forecast 23 TAMS turned up find pleasant, if cool, conditions. Returning 22 points Steve Farrar was the clear winner with Brian [I've got a new driver] Robson maintaining his recent good form coming second on 19 points. Brian also was third in last Saturday's club competition with a net 66- TAMS can still compete!

A record number of 3 birdies was recorded at the 7th by Gordon Fisher, Jim Pettigrew and Sandy Macfarlane, Sandy also taking nearest the pin.

Results and chat 6th April

Brian Boyter kindly took some time out from his busy first week as Club Secretary to introduce himself to the group. He thanked the 'boys' for their continued support of the club and was very positive in his thoughts for the club's future.

20 players returned scores with Brian Robson taking first place on 21 points. Melvin Cannell and Ian Tate both returned 19 points, Melvin taking second place on countback. Ian, however, returned the only birdie at 9 while George Langlands was nearest at 7 for the second week in a row.

Two new players, Richard Leeson and Allan Young, joined the group.

Congratulations to John Napier and his good lady on their Diamond Wedding-the appropriate bag of Celebration sweets was much appreciated John.

Results for 30th March

23 players assembled for the last comp of the winter. Tricky conditions were reflected in several scores in [low] single figures. This did not stop our eldest TAM Steve Baczkowski from taking the honours with 18 points which included a birdie at 7-not bad for a 90+ year old! Youngster Brian Robson was second with 16 points while George Langlands was nearest the pin at 7.

Many are looking forward to the handicap increase of 5 effective from next week.

Results for 23rd March

19 players turned out this morning, conditions being quite benign. Scoring proved difficult, however, with several returns in single figures. 3 players tied on 17 points with Ian Tate taking the honours on countback from Steve Farrar with Roger Key coming 3rd. David Forsyth was nearest at 7 while Steve Farrar birdied the 4th.

Results for 16th March

11 TAM members went out this morning and fortunately the weather was better than forecast.

Tony Kinder took 1st place with a score of 14 points and Roger Key was 2nd with a score of 13 points.

Roger Key also won nearest the pin at the 7th.

Results for 9th March

14 souls braved a frozen course and the erratic behaviour of golf balls bouncing off frozen worm casts. 4 players tied for second on 16 points with Eric Ward taking the place on countback thanks to a 4 pointer at the 9th. George Langlands was first with 17 points despite a blob at the first.

Given the frozen conditions nearest the pin at 7 was mission impossible.

Results for March 2nd

19 players ventured forth. On his first TAMS outing Mike Rowse returned 20 points to take the honours [handicap assessment?] with Brian Robson coming second on 17 points. David Forsyth was nearest at 7.

It is proposed that all handicaps will be adjusted +5 for the new summer season in April. The cap will still be 27.

Unfortunately Jim Pettigrew had a heavy fall coming down the 8th fairway. This resulted in a visit to Borders A & E on Friday because of severe leg pain.

Fortunately nothing was broken but there was some impressive bruising. Appropriate medicine was dispensed and a pair of crutches issued. No golf for a while but no doubt a lot of rugby will be watched by the former Currie RFC captain.

Results for February 23rd

On a glorious sunny morning 14 of us enjoyed the conditions and played a little better than in previous weeks with 9 of us making double figures.

It was close at the top with Wilson Struthers edging out the rest on 14 points.

Jim Pettigrew was second on 13 points after a six-hole countback.

David Wallace celebrated his 75th birthday with a rather nice shot to be nearest at the 7th.
