Join our Junior Golf Programme!
Former winners of the Scottish Junior Club of the Year Award, Peebles boasts a flourishing junior section, and a proud track record of developing talented young golfers and players who go onto enjoy the game for life…
The Club has more than 100 junior members, ranging from Primary Ones taking part in our junior and Academy coaching through to our Junior Team. Our aim is to give youngsters a fun and welcoming environment to learn to play golf and develop junior golfers to become lifelong players and future champions at local, regional and national level...
Our junior membership starts from Primary 1 offering regular coaching for kids throughout the season, whether beginners or those already involved in the game. You can join the Ailsa Murphy Junior Academy, or just our normal junior membership.
The next stage is our innovative 18 Steps programme for more advanced juniors with the goal of attaining a handicap, which takes place on a Thursday evening during the first half of the season.
From there, we encourage juniors to play in our junior competitions, held on Friday afternoons, while we have teams represented in the Edinburgh Junior Golf League and Development League.
Become a champion!
We are one of a select band of clubs to have produced both a Scottish Boys Champion and Scottish Girls Champion in Craig Howie (2012) and Ailsa Bain (2010), as well as GB&I boys international Darren Howie.
Craig and Ailsa are now honorary members of Peebles Golf Club and continue to inspire and support our juniors. Craig has recently gained promotion to the European Tour and Ailsa is a qualified PGA teaching professional.
The junior competition season runs from April through to October, while we also feature 9-hole rounds for the less experienced younger members, with forward blue tees to make the course more playable and adult volunteers accompanying the youngsters to offer general advice.
The Peebles Golf Club Junior Team competes in the Edinburgh League, playing home and away matches against a number of top clubs, with the chance for our young members to enjoy competitive golf over some of the Capital's best courses.
To find out more about how you can get involved in supporting the junior section, of if you have a child looking to become a junior member, contact the Secretary on 01721 720197.
“The Club is very proud of our junior section and we have a very proactive approach towards our younger members. Our juniors have enjoyed tremendous success over the last few years and we would encourage and youngster or parent who wants to get involved to come along and join in, whether you’re at primary or secondary school.”
