Results for 13th October

Early starters encountered a very cold mist which fortunately cleared away fairly quickly to a sunny autumn morning. Scoring however was distinctly mediocre. Richard Edmonds was first returning 16 points. 6 players were tied for second on 14 points with Eric Ward taking the countback. Steve Farrar and David Forsyth were inseparable for nearest at 7 .Steve graciously giving way to David.

George Langlands returned the only birdie at 9.

For October we will be returning to cash for days played. This will start next week ie £3 for those who played the 6th, 13th and 20th.

I will confirm the number of days credit to individuals who have overpaid.

6th September

A sunny Autumn morning [unlike last week's monsoon] welcomed 19 players all with different strategies to win the John Forsyth Putting Trophy-the player with the least number of putts wins. Interesting to see how many approach shots to the green from under 50 yards still do not make the putting surface! The winner is announced at the Xmas lunch.

The only birdie was recorded by George Cunningham at 5 while Steve Farrar was nearest at 7.

September 29th - no golf today!

Despite reasonable forecasting for the morning, our intention to compete for the John Forsyth Putter was resoundingly defeated by relentless rain.

An attempt to run a stableford competition for those brave enough to venture out failed dismally as we were not 'quorate', although there were five indomitable starters.

We will try again next Thursday with our fingers crossed!!

22nd November

Eight rather bedraggled souls made it round on the worst day we have had for many weeks.

Despite the weather we saw a spirited performance from Chris Beaumont who gave a master class in driving and then hit maybe the shot of the year with a 6-iron second on the 4th which cleared that awful bunker and finished about 6-feet from the pin.

Despite two rather forgetful holes Chris won with 16 points and Graham Mackie holed out well to finish with 15 points.

Gordon Fisher was nearest at the 7th.

On the 29thnext week, we will compete for the John Forsyth Putter.

Let's see a good turnout for this fun competition.

I will send a reminder next week with a recall of the rules for this competition.

Results for 15th September

On a sombre but sunny Autumn morning eleven of us enjoyed pleasant conditions.

Several were away up in Scotland visiting Ronnie Watt, a much loved former player and we were also well represented in the Seniors match at Minto.

Our winner was Callum Orr with 19 points despite a horror story down the 9th and Bill Hardcastle was second with 15 points.

Brian Robson was nearest at the 7th

Bill is now off to visit family in Oz along with Sandy Macfarlane who is already there.

We also welcomed to our ranks Bob Kibble, another from the professional teaching fraternity.

Despite the Ladies competition next Thursday we are still able to play as the Ladies do not start until later.

Another reminder that on Thursday 29th September we will compete for the John Forsyth Putter,

a much anticipated event with players already trying to work out how to minimise their putting strokes.

Results for 8th September

A pleasant Autumn morning encouraged 20 players out. Scoring ranged, however, from 5 points to 20 points reflecting the wet conditions ,particularly in the semi rough. Alistair Lambie was the winner on 20 points closely followed by new member, David Ward Gittos, on 19 points. It was good to see a rejuvenated David Wallace return 17 points over 7 holes -if only David.

Birdies were recorded by Ian Tate at 4 and George Cunningham at 5. Chris Beaumont was nearest at 7.

We will be playing for the JF Putter on 29th September.

Thanks to Bill Hardcastle for donating 6 Titleist golf balls to the stock.

Results for September 1st

A beautiful autumn morning with the course in excellent condition proved somewhat challenging to 21 players.

The best scores were returned by Keith Ackerman and Jim Pettigrew, both with 18 points, Keith winning on countback.

Brian Robson birdied 9 and George Langlands birdied 7. Ken Davey was nearest at 7.

George Langlands confirmed that £400 would be transferred from TAMS account to the club for this year's sponsorship.

George also advised that Ken Bowie wished to sell his UNUSED Motocaddy Si, with the proceeds going to the Golf Club.

Results for 25th August

We had 19 players this morning, several of the regulars supporting today's seniors match. Conditions were pleasant full advantage being taken by Graham Mackie who returned 18 points despite a blob at the first, Wilson Struthers took second with 17 points from Alister Lambie after countback. Ken Davie birdied the first and was inside Graham's drive at 7 to take nearest the pin.

Jim Walker is developing a photo-montage record for TAMS 30th anniversary next year following on from the success of the booklet published for the 35th anniversary.

Results for 18th August

Today with an outstanding turnout of 27 players we competed for the Ken Bowie Salver.

The competition was a 5-club stableford which was a fine format for this lovely trophy donated by Ken at the end of his own playing days.

It was great to see Brian Robson back playing with us again after his injury-enforced absence.

We were missing George Langlands today after his family were claimed by 'the dreaded lurgi' (aka Covid 19).

As is our style for these signature trophies, we will not reveal the winner until our annual Christmas lunch. Suffice to say there was keen competition for this trophy.

We do however reward our weekly 'funnies' winners.

Bill Hardcastle birdied the 5th and Steve Farrar was nearest on the 7th.

Results for 4th August

Early rain gave way to pleasant conditions with a softer course. Full advantage was taken by new member David Ward Gittos who was first with 19 points. A worthy second was Gordon Fisher with 17 points which included a birdie at 4 [the ball floated from his sand wedge in front of the bunker straight to the hole] followed by a birdie at 7 his drive 18 inches from an ace. Nearest the pin held despite a valiant attempt by Jim Pettigrew.

No TAMS next week with the Senior's open taking place. We will play for Ken Bowie's Salver the following week-a 5 club competition.

Results for 28th July

A cool but calm morning encouraged 19 players. Scoring was generally good Jim Walker taking the honours with 21 points with a birdie start at the first. John Forsyth sneaked second from Jim Pettigrew both, on 19 points. Ian Quigley birdied 4 while Bill Hardcastle was nearest at 7.

Two players competed for shot of the day-from 170 yards out Steve Farrar played his second shot from the left semi-rough on the 5th to see the ball flying towards the field, hit the OB post and sail on to the green some 15 feet from the pin setting up his par.

Richard Edmonds approach to the 6th green diverted right to play pin ball off the walls of the new bridge and ended up on the green -Richard putted out for a six. Precision golf?

We will play for Ken's Salver on the18th August as the course is closed for the Senior Open on the 11th.

Results for July 21st

After the great heat we had a lovely morning to play golf and it was enjoyed by 25 of us, which equals our season's best turnout.

The range of scores was astonishing from top to bottom but we had a convincing winner in Brian Taylor with 20 points. Brian was also nearest at the 7th which he also birdied - that amounts to a 4-ball haul.

Graham Mackie was second on 19 points and Eric Ward also birdied the 7th.

Our most-improved golfer, Chris Beaumont, hit what was judged by the gallery to be the best shot of his career on the 5th hole where he hit a sweetly struck second shot from the right rough, which soared over the bunkers and followed the TAMS line up the left edge of the fairway and onto the top edge of the green to finish just a few feet past the hole!

Results for June 23rd

A pleasant summer morning with the course in excellent condition favored some good scoring. No-one could hit 20 points, however, Keith Ackerman returning 19 points for the honours. David Wallace was second easing ahead of Bill Hardcastle and Steve Baczkowski all on 18 points.

Birdies were recorded by Melvin Cannell, Richard Edmonds, Ken Davie, Bill Hardcastle, Callum Orr [on his first TAMS outing] and Gordon Fisher who was also nearest the pin at 7. The budget will have to be revised if this ball feast continues!

Results for June 30th

On a really pleasant morning we had a TAMS record turn out for this season of 25 starters.

Melvin Cannell won today with 19 points and was also recognised as having the only real 'go-to' golf swing among all of the TAMS. Melvin takes the club back and brings it down again all in the same plane. That is easy to say but very difficult to do.

Ken Davey was second on 18points and Steve Farrar continued his excellent form this season with a birdie on the difficult pin position at the 4th.

Bill Hardcastle was nearest on the 7th with several players also coming close, but no-one converting their shot for a birdie.

Results for 9th June

Good to see TAMS well represented in the Senior Team against Torwoodlee tho' it somewhat diminished our playing number this morning.

Pleasant conditions encouraged several scores in the high teens Steve Farrar coming out on top with 18 points followed by Eric Ward on 16 points. Jim Pettigrew's swing is obviously in sync at 7 as he was nearest the pin for the second week running.

Results for June 2nd

21 starters enjoyed a lovely morning on a beautifully prepared golf course.

We are definitely getting better and our golf is now a bit more worthy of the course.

Sandy Morris just sneaked in ahead of the field with 20 points.

Second place on 19 points went on countback to Steve Farrar who just edged out Bill Hardcastle.

Steve is in a rich vein of form no doubt fortified by a short break in Cyprus in what appears to have been rather lovely company!

Jim Pettigrew was nearest on the 7th.

We look forward to continuing good scores and hopefully a few birdies which have been scarce this season.

Results for 26th May

20 players enjoyed the golf course in immaculate condition at such an early stage in the golfing year. The greens were true and lightning fast - witness some of us who putted off the front of the second green from behind the pin.

We are getting better after last week's horror show and Melvin Cannell was our clear winner with 18 points. There was a log jam behind Melvin with 3 on 16 and more on 15 points.

David Forsyth was adjudged second on 16 points on extended countback from John Forsyth and Ian Tate.

And, at last we had a birdie from Brian Taylor on the 7th and he was also nearest.
