Unfortunately early heavy rain reduced the turnout to play for the John Forsyth Putter. As is tradition the winner will be announced at the Xmas lunch.
There were no birdies [Ken Davie's fault!]. Gordon Fisher was nearest the pin at 7.
It was good to return to post golf socialising today. We played a 5 club competition for the Ken Bowie salver the winner of which will be announced at the Xmas lunch. Brian Robson recorded 2 birdies and was nearest the pin at the 7th. Bill Hardcastle and Ken Davie also recorded a birdie each.
Next week we play for the John Forsyth putter when only the putts on the greens count.
We had quite a high scoring competition this morning with 5 players scoring 20+ points. 3 players scored 21 points with Tony Kinder 's 10 points over 7,8 and 9 winning the day. George Tucker took second place from Ian Quigley with 8 points on the middle 3 holes to Ian's 6.
Tony and Ian both birdied 9 [each for 5 points] while Ian Tate birdied the 4th.
25 players enjoyed another pleasant morning with just a slight threat of drizzle towards the end.
Wilson Struthers, who has been involved in recent countbacks, came in a clear winner with 23 points.
Steve Farrar, Brian Taylor, Graham Mackie and Eric Ward all returned 20 points with Eric taking the countback.
Steve also birdied the first.
We plan to return to post golf socialising on 2nd September [abiding by current rules] . We also plan to play for the KB Salver on that day which is a 5 club stableford and on the following week we will play for the JF Putter.
A pleasant summer morning welcomed 21 players. John Napier maintained his good recent form to return 21 points to win the day.
3 players tied on 20 points, George Tucker, Eric Ward and Ian Quigley with Ian taking second place on the countback.
Ken Davey birdied 9 [again] while Alan Kelso birdied 7.
No TAMS next week because of the Senior Open. Hopefully back to more normal post-golf socialising soon.
25 players turned up on a much cooler morning than we have recently experienced. Our country member, Dug Coltman, who has been exiled in St Boswells for the last few weeks managed to score 22 points over 6 holes to take first place. Graham Mackie and Wilson Struthers tied on 21 points ,Graham taking second place on the countback.
Wilson birdied 9 and Bill Hardcastle birdied 4.
Another pleasant summer's morning saw 23 players taking on the challenge of an increasingly brown course.
Gordon Fisher mastered the challenge returning 24 points, while John Napier and Wilson Struthers both returned 22 points, John taking second place on the countback. Unusually Ken Davie did not have a birdie but Tony Kinder did birdie 7.
Another fine summer's morning encouraged 25 players. Scoring was impressive with 9 players returning 18 points or more.
Tony Kinder returned 21 points to take first from Alister Lambie's 20 points.
David Wallace rediscovered his proper golf swing and putting stroke to score 19 points including birdies at 4 and 7. Steve Baczkowski and John Forsyth also scored 19 points.
For a change Ken Davey birdied 8 rather than 9 while Bill Hardcastle birdied 9.
Another pleasant summer's morning--though we could now do with some sun--encouraged 25 players onto the course.
With a credible 21 points Brian Taylor took first place. Sandy Macfarlane, Bill Hardcastle and Brian Robson all tied on 20 points, Sandy taking second place with an impressive 9 points on the last 3 holes.
Warner Hardie reinforced the end of his birdie drought with a birdie at 3 following the one at the 5th last week.
Ken Davie birdied the 9th for the third week in a row-I think this means he can take it home and put it on the mantlepiece for a year-good luck with that!
A beautiful summer's morning encouraged 18 players out on the course. Steve Farrar recorded his first win of the year with 22 points.
Eric Ward and George Cunningham both came home with 20 points, Eric shading second on the countback.
Warner Hardie recorded a rare birdie at 5 while Ken Davey repeated last week's birdie at 9.
Congrats to Stevie and his team for the excellent condition of the course.
A pleasant summer's morning with the course in excellent condition encouraged 30 players to compete for the Roddie McAlpine Gavel.
As per custom the winner will be revealed at the Xmas lunch -Covid and other things permitting!
Despite the good conditions many of the guys struggled to score, at least half returning less than 15 points.
Highlights were provided in the form of birdies by Bill Hardcastle [4th], Ken Davie [9th] and Ian Tate [7th].
Some 31 players faced a pleasant spring morning. Scoring was impressive with 17 returning 18 points or more. Chris Beaumont and Ian Tate tied on 24 points, Chris taking first after countback. Ian also birdied 7.
Because of snow on the course we had a late start and the group split over the front and back nines.
David Wallace found his old form returning 19 points on the front nine with Tony Kinder following closely behind on 18 points.
Not to be outdone Owen Butler also scored 19 points on the back nine with Brian Robson second on 17 points.
Handicaps will not be adjusted because of the unusual circumstances.
22 players braved another Arctic morning. Scoring was generally very good with Jim Pettigrew taking first with 23 points. Alister Lambie squeezed 2nd from Jim Walker after countback, both returning 22 points. A rare birdie was recorded by Roger Key at the 9th.
It was pleasing to see the clubhouse open again though ,understandably, not everyone is comfortable with meeting inside.
A lovely spring morning welcomed 28 players including those returning from 'aw the airts' ie Penicuik.
The return certainly suited Jim Walker who returned a 5 pointer and two 4 pointers in amassing a grand total of 27 points. The record books will have to be checked. Second on 25 points [which would normally win] was George Tucker repeating his success of two weeks ago. Hot stuff from both to match the weather.
Everyone is looking forward to to the return of post golf socialising albeit with the required disciplines.
A beautiful spring morning with the course in excellent condition created low scoring opportunities for some 28 players.
8 players scored 20 or more points with Brian Robson leading the field on 24. Roger Key returned 23 points for second.
Birdies were recorded by Owen Butler [2] ,with David Wallace and Ken Davie each picking up one.

23 souls faced a cold, breezy and mizzley morning. The conditions favoured John Forsyth who returned an impressive 23 points to win. George Tucker and George Langlands tied on 20 points, George T taking the countback.
Shot of the day was delivered by Jim Pettigrew who holed out for an eagle 2 from the 'Pensioners Gap' on the 8th with a superb hybrid shot which earned him 5 points, making up for the missed 3 footer on the 7th for a 2!
The COVID Cup
In a week when we remember with sadness the passing of Joe Nisbet, the TAMS opened their season with the inaugural playing of The COVID Cup, a new annual competition to remind us of a season like no other.
On a bitterly cold morning thirty starters played stableford golf without knowing how to win this masked and sanitised trophy.
The winning formula was intended to reflect the odd circumstances in which we find ourselves and was the total of the stableford scores for each of the odd-numbered holes i.e 1;3;5;7;9.
In the spirit of the competition players were asked to wear masks for each tee-shot with balls being awarded for the best masks.
Warner Hardie, Ken Davey and Tony Kinder were judged to have the best masks - see below.
With a score of 14 points for the odd-numbered holes, our winner was our elder statesman, Steve Baczkowski, at the grand age of 94 and having had both of his jabs. A par 3 on the 7th was what won the day for Steve.
Wilson Struthers was second on 13 pts and George Tucker and George Langlands shared third place on 12 pts.
18 players escaped from the Xmas pressures to enjoy a pleasant morning on the course. Scoring overall was impressive with Brain Taylor [who seems to have been involved in more countbacks than anyone] taking first with 22 points, Sandy Macfarlane coming second on 21 points. Ian Tate birdied 4 and Brian Robson birdied 9.
Xmas Lunch
With Covid concerns and constraints applying 13 members enjoyed a very different Xmas lunch. Thanks to Joe and his team in the kitchen.
