Results for 30th July and ceremonial raising of new Club flag

19 players braved a wet forecast which turned out to be not so wet.

There were several good scores in the 20's, Steve Farrar taking first with 23 points, Sandy Morris a close second with 22. George Langlands birdied 7.

We were pleased to be joined by Club Captain Gavin Carruthers. Gavin had agreed to a ceremonial raising of the new Club flag sponsored by the TAMS. He was joined at the flag pole by founding member Jim McAuslin and other TAMS. Gavin kindly expressed his and the Club's appreciation of the support given by the 'oldies '.

Results for 23rd July

15 hardy [fool?] TAMS decided to face the morning monsoon. Not all completed 9 holes and at least another 6 stayed in the lounge for coffee!

The wet conditions obviously suited ex Fire Chief Richard Edmonds who returned 23 points closely followed by Chris Beaumont on 21 points. Excellent scoring in the deluges.

Birdies were also recorded at 7 by Richard and by Graham Mackie.

TAMS are pleased to sponsor the new Club Flag.

Results for 16th July - updated

A pleasant morning with the course in good condition encouraged 26 TAMS out before we welcome back our block tee times next week. Thanks to Sarah and the office for their work in making the new arrangements.

Tony Kinder had his best ever outing scoring 25 points, emulating Sandy Macfarlane's score from last week. Well played Tony.

Birdies were recorded at the 7th by David Wallace and Tony Kinder and at the 9th by Sandy Macfarlane and George Langlands.

4 players returned 22 points including Steve Baczkowski, our young 93 year old, who had a 5 pointer at 9, as did George Langlands.

Graham Mackie and Ian Quigley were the other 2 members of the '22' club. On the countback George sneaked it from Steve by one point, Ian and Graham being a further point behind,.

Steve's 22 points at 93 must warrant a ball at least.!

Coronavirus- arrangements for TAMS

By now all of you will have given thought to how you will prepare yourselves and your families for the onset of this disease in our community.

With regard to the TAMS and to our golf, given the age profile of our players and the near-certain infection of some members of our community, we believe that it is incumbent on all of us together to take sensible steps to mitigate the risk of infection from this disease.

Accordingly and after consultation with some of our players, we have decided that for the foreseeable future we will proceed as follows:

(i) We will continue to play on Thursday mornings at our usual time.

(ii) We will not mark and submit cards and therefore will only play for the pleasure of each other's company.

(iii) We will not collect weekly subs, though we may later ask for voluntary donations, given that the TAMS makes annual charitable gifts.

(iv) We will not congregate as a group in the clubhouse after playing for our customary reflection on the ills of the world.

TAMS back in action - 5th March

After missing 3 Thursdays 16 players were pleased to welcome a frosty but wonderful winter/seemed like spring morning.

Scoring was impressive 6 cards returning 20+ points. Top of the list was Jim Pettigrew with 24 points. Warner Hardie shaded Ronnie Watt for second place both scoring 22 points. Birdies were recorded by Ian Tate at the 4th and David Wallace at the 9th. No-one held the green at the 7th.

Results for February 7th

On a glorious morning we had 23 starters.

The course was playing long and the greens were just difficult which yielded rather poor scoring with the average being about 14 or 15 points.

However as always some rose to the challenge and our clear winner was Wilson Struthers with 18 points as well as an excellent birdie on the 9th.

George Cunningham was second with 17 points despite having got lost somewhere and arriving after the presentation where Ian Tate had been awarded second on 16 points on countback from Sandy Macfarlane.

Ken Davey was nearest on the 7th.

We sent some photos from the lounge with our best wishes to Jim Walker who is recovering in hospital from a stroke.

First outing in 2020

After a 4 week gap 20 players were keen to play the first TAMS opportunity of 2020 despite challenging conditions. Two of our 'senior' members rose to the challenge scoring 19 points each, John Forsyth easing past George Tucker on countback. Ken Davie continued his birdie success at 9, which Ian Tate also birdied. Roger Key was nearest at 7.

A surprised Wilson Struthers [who was cruising the high seas in December] accepted the Stanley Ridgeway Trophy which he won last summer.

Results for December 19th

A very mild morning encouraged some good scoring. Ken Davie and Richard Edmonds tied on 22 points, Ken taking the countback, his birdie at 9 helping. George Langlands almost aced the 7th converting a nervy 10 inch put for the 2

The next play will be the 9th January as the clubhouse is closed on the 2nd. However if at least 6 play on the 2nd if cards could be collected for scoring on the 9th.

It was very sad to hear that Bill Hardcastle's wife Francesca and Harvey Robertson's wife Babs had both passed away.

5th December Results, Lunch and Prizewinners.

14 players ignored a poor weather forecast to find pleasant golfing conditions. Roger Key particularly enjoyed the conditions returning 24 points for first place. George Cunningham was second with a credible 21 points. Birdies were recorded by David Wallace at the 1st and Alistair Lambie at the 9th. Ian Tate was nearest at 7.

33 TAMS enjoyed an excellent Xmas Lunch provided by the catering team led by Nick. Much improved compared to the last 2 years.

The trophy winners this year were: Ken Bowie Salver - David Wallace

Stanley Ridgeway Trophy - Wilson Struthers

Roddie's Gavel - Doug Coltman

Handicap Quaich - Graham Mackie

Scratch Trophy - David Wallace

John Forsyth Putter -Sandy Morris

There was much laughter-merriment-ridicule around the table but the highlight of the afternoon was Chris Beaumont's melodious rendering of the 12 Days AFTER Xmas.

28th November results and Christmas meal arrangements

9 souls eventually faced [some reluctantly] a dreich winter's morning. Two of the first group out set the pace and the scoring, Warner Hardie returning 18 points for first, closely followed by Chris Malcolm on 17 for second. Warner also was nearest at 7. The third member of the group was pleased to be useful by marking Warner's card!

A general reminder that we will sit down at 12.30 pm on Thursday for Xmas lunch. Brian Robson will collect monies on the day-£20 for 2 courses, £22 for 3 courses. Please try and have the correct amount.

On a dark, cold morning... results for 21st November.

A dark, cold morning greeted 26 players-we lost one somewhere as we had 9 threes-careless!

Ronnie Watt was a well deserved winner with 23 points. Chris Beaumont maintained his recent form edging Warner Hardie for second place, both on 21 points. David Wallace birdied 9 and managed the impossible by holding the green at 7 for nearest the pin.

Results for 14th November

Chris Beaumont obviously likes this cold weather as he followed up last week's 22 points with an impressive 24 points today. Graham Mackie took the countback from George Langlands, both returning 19 points. Birdies were recorded by Ken Davie, Warner Hardie and David Wallace, the latter chipping in to record a rare birdie at the 3rd.

It was agreed that when winter greens are on that bunkers are treated as ground under repair.

Xmas lunch is confirmed on Thursday the 5th.

Results for 7th November

On a truly dreich and squelchy Autumn morning, 13 TAMS were the only players on the golf course until some of the ladies ventured out later on in what became a downpour.

Despite these conditions the scoring was terrific with more than half the field playing to or better than their handicaps.

There was a three-way tie for first place with 22 stableford points and the winner was Mr Consistency aka Gordon Fisher who just edged out Chris Beaumont and Rev Warner Hardie.

Warner was awarded a bonus ball for having parred the first two holes and made two more pars later on. Our senior academician, Tony Kinder, who continues to enjoy the benefits of his practising was nearest at no 7.

We were also delighted to welcome our good friend Ken Bowie for coffee.
