TAMS

TAMS is a well known group within Peebles Golf Club but not everyone knows that it stands for 'Thursday am Seniors' .

TAMS was established by 23 Senior members in 1993.  9 holes of golf are played every Thursday morning in all seasons, followed by coffee and conversation.

The first Thursday of every month is a Stableford competition and every other week it is a strokeplay competition.. 2 golf balls are awarded for first place with the runner up receiving one ball. Those players achieving birdies also win a golf ball and each week a golf ball is awarded to the player who is nearest the pin on the 7th hole. Everyone is however guaranteed to win at least one golf ball in the course of the year as players' birthdays are marked with the same coveted prize.

Over the summer, 4 trophies are played for including the Stanley Ridgeway Trophy and the Roddie McAlpine Gavel. The Drew Haldane Quaich is played for over the winter months.

Of the original members who founded TAMS, 3 still play. Currently there are 34 TAMS playing with an age range from late 50s to 90 and a handicap range from 7 to 25. New players are always welcome.

TAMS is now a well established part of Peebles Golf Club that provides many of our senior members with the chance to play some competitive golf in a friendly and sociable atmosphere. TAMS also continue to support our younger members by sponsoring the Club's junior players.

The Seniors' blog will bring you the results from the weekly TAMS competitions.

Thank you to George Langlands for the TAMS information.

The Seniors' Team wins again!

Peebles Seniors completed their home fixtures for this season with a victory over local rivals, Torwoodlee.

Things didn't start too well for the home team with the opening pair of Ian Tate and George Cunningham losing narrowly by one hole. However, debutant Neil Byers and his partner Andy Tucker quickly restored parity with a 3&1 win.

David Wright and Brian Robson ensured that Peebles got their noses in front with a hard earned 2&1 victory.

Game 4 provided the closest encounter of the day. Former team captain Vic Roberts and his partner Gordon Fisher came up against a very determined pair led by the Torwoodlee captain Keith Allen. The lead changed hands many times but in the end the teams could not be separated and the game was halved.

The home team finished the match very strongly. In game 5 Ian Pemberton and Ian Mewett won comfortably by 5&4 and in the final game of the day Gordon Brown and Graeme Murray closed the proceedings on the 16th green to win 3&2.

Final Score: Peebles 4 and a half points - Torwoodlee 1 and a half points

Peebles Seniors edge out Minto to extend their unbeaten run!

Peebles Seniors maintained their excellent form with a hard fought home victory against Minto on Thursday 4th June.

The opening pairing of Mike Wilson and Andy Tucker were involved in the closest match of the day. After 18 holes the teams couldn't be separated and the match finishing all square.  In match 2, debutant Ian Tate and his partner George Cunningham struck up a good partnership to win 3&2. David Wright and Brian Robson came up against a very strong Minto pairing in their match. With the lead continually changing hands they eventually closed the game out on the 17th to win 2&1.

Matches 4 and 5 went to Minto with Keith Brunton and Vic Roberts losing 4&3 and the two Ians, Mewett and Pemberton, losing by the same score.

After 5 matches the score was level and both teams waited anxiously for the result from match 6.

The final pairing of Gordon Brown and Ken Morrison won their match impressively, 6&5, thus ensuring a 3 and a half pts to 2 and a half pts victory for the home side.

The next match is at home to Torwoodlee on Thursday 18th June. The team sheet is on the notice board.

Seniors' Match v Minto

Due to a few of our regular players being on holiday, coupled with some injuries, we are still two players short for our team match with Minto on Thursday 4th June at 9am. It would be regrettable if Peebles was unable to field a full team for this match. Please, if you are able to play, add your name to the team sheet on the Seniors' noticeboard or call the office. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Seniors achieve a whitewash over Broomieknowe

The Peebles Seniors were in sparkling form in their second outing of the season. In very wet conditions they achieved a comprehensive 6-0 win over rivals Broomieknowe.
The biggest victory of the day came when Brian Robson and David Wright closed out their match on the 12th green to win 7&6. Brian's recent holiday in Spain obviously did him good and he returned to the team in sparkling form.

Equally impressive was the pairing of Gordon Fisher and Andy Tucker. 7 up at the turn, they shook hands with their opponents on the 13th green for a 7&5 win.

Alan Jackson and Donald Jamie along with the pairing of Andrew Thomson and Sandy Wood achieved comfortable 4&3 wins to put the match beyond the reach of Broomieknowe.
Keith Brunton and Sam Walker had their hands full in their match and after a very close encounter they got their noses in front to edge out their opponents by 2&1.

The final match of the day really tested the fighting spirit of Ian Mewett and Ian Pemberton. Fresh from their comprehensive win last week against St Boswells, the pair had to dig deep and eventually won their match on the 18th green at 1 up.

Despite the poor weather this was a excellent performance by the Peebles team against very good opponents.

The next match is against Minto Golf Club on Thursday 4th June at home. Could all team members please gather in the clubhouse at8.45am sharp for coffee with the first tee time scheduled for 9.30 am.

Peebles Seniors enjoy comfortable win over St Boswells.

Peebles Seniors, under new team captain, David Wright, defeated St Boswells by 5 points to 1 at home on Thursday 14th May. Grant Bowie and Graeme Murray won the opening game 3 and 1 with David Wright and Gordon Brown following this up with a 4 and 3 victory. Game 3 was undoubtedly the tie of the match with Tom Litster, who was partnered by Andrew Waddell achieving the incredible feat of two holes in one. Despite this achievement the match was incredibly close with the home pair winning by one hole. Keith Brunton and Sam Walker enjoyed an easy 4 and 3 victory while the only reverse of the day came when Alan Jackson and Roger Scott lost 2 down. The final pairing of Ian Pemberton and Ian Mewett rounded off the match with a convincing 6 and 5 win.

The next match for the Senior Team is against Broomieknowe at home on Thursday 21st May.
