Remembering Former Greenkeeper Joe Nisbet

Joe+Nisbet.jpg

The Club is very saddened to announce that one of our former greenkeepers Joe Nisbet passed away on Tuesday, at the age of 87.

‘Wee Joe’ was a very popular member of the greenkeeping team throughout the 90s, having joined initially as a seasonal worker after retiring from his previous job as a shepherd. He started full-time at the club in 1992, and was a great mentor to the young apprentices at the time (including Stevie Borthwick) under the leadership of head greenkeeper Donald Menzies, alongside his companion Johnny Robertson. Never shy to offer an opinion on any subject, he loved a debate and a story from yesteryear, and kept the greenkeepers bothy entertained with his impressive array of Frank Sinatra songs, always fancying himself as performing artist on the big stage.

He was an active member of the Club and the BIGGA greenkeeper competitions, playing almost every Saturday morning until his recent ill health, and always had a word of advice or wisdom for the current greenkeeping team and his fellow members. Very much a family man and a dapper gentleman, he was very proud of the achievements of his two sons, and enjoyed regular travels with his wife, sampling the odd dram and glass of red wine around Europe.

He will be sadly missed by many and our sympathies go to his family at this sad time.

RIP Joe. A great character...

Update for Junior Members and Parents

Girls.JPG

With spring now upon us, the weather improving and the light nights just around the corner, we hope you are all looking forward to the new golf season here at Peebles Golf Club! After the challenges of 2020, we hope that this year will see a return to something of a normal season and fortunately the golf course remains open with relatively few restrictions.

As ever, we are committed to providing a great experience for junior golfers, whether those at the beginner level or established players who compete in competitions, and we wanted to give you some information on what’s in store for 2021 …

 Junior Competitions

The opening Junior Competition takes place this Friday 26 March, starting with a 9-hole junior competition open to those with a handicap or putting a card in for a new handicap. We have included a few 9-hole competitions in the fixture list to encourage more juniors to play, aimed at those who perhaps don’t have time to play a full 18 or those who might prefer to just play 9 holes before they are ready for the full 18. The online tee-booking system is now live, with tee-times available between 14.33 and 15.27. It would be great to have a good turnout for the first competition, so we would encourage all those who are eligible to take part to get their name down.

Competitions then continue on a regular basis on a Friday afternoon, with tee-times going live 7 days in advance. Please note that with the Clubhouse shut at present, competitors will be required to use the HowDidiDo app to sign in and input their scores. The new Worldwide Handicap System (WHS) is now in operation, but your new handicap should be updated on the App.

ClubGolf Junior Coaching

We are pleased that ClubGolf Junior Group Coaching is permitted under the current guidelines and our sessions will commence on Sunday 18 April. Once again, the sessions will be split into two and initially based on age groups, with the P1 – P4 group taking place from 10am to 11am, followed by P5 – S2s from 11.15am to 12.15pm, taking place at the Driving Range. Sessions will be delivered by the Club’s Volunteer Coaches, with new coaching resources being provided by Scottish Golf designed to improve how the coaching is delivered.

Coaching will take place on Sundays throughout the season from April to October, generally every 2 weeks, but please check the website for the full list of dates.

18-Steps Coaching Programme

After last season’s enforced layoff, we will be restarting the 18-Steps coaching programme, led by our PGA Professional Steve Johnston with support from some of the Junior Coaches. This programme is designed to bridge the gap between ClubGolf coaching and competitive golf, with more technical coaching, course management and advice provided, for those youngsters ready to take the step up. Our team will identify those who we feel are ready for this group and an invite will be sent to parents for those boys and girls selected for this season, with further information and dates shortly.

Junior Team Matches & Coaching

We are also hoping to resume Junior Team Matches this season by fielding a ream in the Edinburgh Junior League and Junior Development League. The fixtures have still to be finalised, but these will communicated to those involved once published. Our intention this year is also to provide coaching to those players involved in the squad, delivered on a monthly basis by our Pro Steve Johnston, focused on improving the skills, technique and course management of those players in the team or with the potential to play for the team. This will require commitment from the players selected (there may be some homework involved!) but we should see the players’ handicaps coming down and ability levels going up as the season progresses.

9-Hole Junior Scramble

To kickstart the junior season, we are hosting a 9-Hole Junior Fun Scramble on the afternoon Sunday 4 April for junior members, parents and junior coaches. Tee-times will go live on Sunday 28 March, so get the date marked in your diary look out for more details on this in the next Club Newsletter.

Celebrating International Women's Day

PGC Coaching Group Girls.jpg

Wishing all our female members a Happy International Women’s Day!

We are proud to play our part in growing women and girls golf in Scotland and we were recognised for our efforts in promoting girls golf by winning the Community Champion category at last years Scottish Women in Sport Awards.

Peebles is an inclusive golf club for all and we want to encourage more women and girls to join, whether through our Get into Golf beginner programme, junior coaching, competitive golf or just a social game with friends.

We look back on a few highlights from recent years which give a flavour of some of our activities to help grow participation among women and girls at Peebles…

Annual General Meeting – Captain’s Speech

I hope you enjoyed the video of last year’s highlights. It’s great to look back on those sunny days when we were all playing golf and lots of it. As you will know, this is all Ross’s work and I’d like to thank him for producing this and lifting our spirits as we sit here in mid-winter.

> View AGM Presentation Slides

I need to open by saying that I when became your Captain last February I certainly did not anticipate becoming Captain Covid. I expected to be kicking off the season with a Captains vs Vice Captains match in March, followed by the opportunity to play golf with as many of you as possible, exchanging golf stories on the course and in the clubhouse. I was also looking forward to hosting presentation nights, handing out prizes and accolades to our trophy winners. I was even looking forward to playing in the Innerleithen Club Match.

However, despite the unexpected turn of events there is one thing that has played out as I expected – it’s been an absolute honour and privilege to be Captain of Peebles Golf Club. The number of messages of encouragement from members really reminded me what a brilliant club we are and despite the unprecedented challenges we were facing into, that we would undoubtedly work through it. I will cover this in more detail in a few moments as I walk you through a short presentation.

Lastly, before I move to the AGM presentation, I’d like to thank Les Biscomb for stepping up and taking on the role of Vice Captain last year. Les was very clear that this was a temporary arrangement as we had no other candidates and that he would step aside when a suitable candidate was identified.

During the time Les was Vice Captain his contribution was significant and after he stepped back from the Vice-Captain role he continued to contribute significantly across a range of activities. I would single out his leadership of the Sponsorship Sub Committee as the highlight but then there was also the Crowd Funding initiative and many other contributions. Thank you Les, you are an incredible man and your passion for our golf club is there for all to see.

This brings me to the appointment of Chris Patterson as Vice-Captain. I’d like to briefly introduce Chris as is traditional at this forum, the AGM.

Chris is a Chartered Civil Engineer who works for Jacobs in Edinburgh where he leads the company’s UK Ports and Maritime team.   Chris has a long association with Peebles Golf Club having been a club member for 37 years since joining as a junior in the mid-1980s. Chris also previously served on the committee for a number of years during which time he held the role of Competitions Convenor.  Out with golf, some of you may also know Chris from his involvement in various other activities in the town including the Highland Games where he has chaired the organising committee for several years.

Chris is married to Kellie and they have two young boys, Callum and Harris.   Although helping to raise his family has reduced the amount of golf that Chris has been able to play over the last few years, he has still managed to maintain a handicap of 6.   With his son, Callum, now a junior member, Chris has been able to play more golf and is determined to lower his handicap.

I am personally delighted to have Chris as my Vice Captain as he is embedded in our club traditions and history and has brought a significant skillset to the board and committee.  When I invited Chris to be our Vice Captain, his first reaction was to say: “…he was very honoured and proud to be asked”. This made his decision fairly easy and I am very much assured that this time next year, I will be handing over the Captaincy to an exceptional candidate.

Now I’d like to take you through a short presentation reviewing last year and looking forward to 2021.

Slide 2

·       The course really was excellent all year and when you consider the early challenges faced with burning hot weather and only Stevie working on his own, it’s quite some achievement by our Greenkeeping staff.

·       Even though we didn’t start golfing until the end of May, record numbers of people played golf last year. Starting sheets were full and getting a time became a challenge if you weren’t quick enough booking a space. Analysis of BRS showed that we saw an overall playing increase of 44%. I see this a big positive as golf reversed a sustained trend of declining popularity and became the go to sport for many people as other sports were still inaccessible due to lockdown.

·       Last year Ross talked about the over reliance we had as a club on a small group of volunteers. This year I’m delighted to say many of our members stepped forward and made a valuable contribution. This ranged from weeding burns and bunkers, seeding divots, painting the driving range and out of bounds fenceposts, a new team for range balls collection, general tidying up, laying new decking on the balcony, building the range ball washer machine and of course our established gardeners. It’s also worth remembering that all the board and committee and junior coaches are also volunteers. Collectively the level of volunteering has really helped our club. Thank you again to all our volunteers.

·       Touching on the previous point, the ‘can do’ attitude of so many people took some of the burden off our small staff team. When people talk about the club it’s basically all of us and nothing happens by itself. So again, my thanks to everybody who demonstrated a can do approach.

·       We attracted a significant number of new members last season and it was especially pleasing to see such a lot of younger members join the club. This age demographic is one that has dwindled over the years and I really hope these members enjoyed their golf and are here to stay.  It was a long time ago but I used to squeeze in a medal round of golf prior to playing for the local football team and in my view golf membership can co-exist with football, rugby, hockey etc.

·       Last season our clubhouse and bar saw much change as after we re-opened from lockdown the number of new rules and changes placed quite a burden on our staff. Be it new rules, extra cleaning and hygiene processes, table service and also having their hours chopped and change due to furlough etc. It wasn’t easy for Willie & Freda, none of this was part of their job profile but they kept going and when we were allowed they kept our glasses full and served our tables. Thank You.

Slide 3

·       Steve had a very tough year last year.  At the start of lockdown Jamie Allan had recently graduated and moved to Loretto and Bob Allan was lined up to start.  However, Bob’s start was delayed given the circumstances and when we re-opened at the end of May, Steve was on his own in the shop.  This meant Steve working 12 hour days, on his feet all day and this was tough going.  Throughout that time Steve also helped to ensure our buggies were wiped down and fully charged and continued to be the face of the club to members and visitors alike. I know Steve was delighted when circumstances allowed Bob to start and this helped to share the load. Again I’d like to express my thanks to Steve and Bob for their efforts last year.

·       The Club Championship week was my own personal favourite event of the year. I had the opportunity to start every match in every section and the level of competition that exists within our club is something that makes Peebles so special.  That Sheila has now won 23 lady championships is incredible and she shows little sign of slowing down. In the gents championship the final between Jamie & Darren was fiercely contested but played in great spirit in front of a huge crowd on a beautiful sunny day. Then presenting the prizes from the first tee back to the balcony was fun, despite the heavy rain shower.  I’d also like to mention that after listening to member feedback we will have a Seniors Championship this season and will be named the Tom Litster Trophy.  I feel this is appropriate and will be a great addition to the championship schedule.

·       Our office team under the leadership of Alan Frain did a great job. They re-organised themselves to incorporate home working and then find the balance of providing office services to members and visitors and some home working. This has worked well and will probably be the “new normal” going forward. I’d also like make you aware that they have taken in-house, some of the accounting processing work from our accountants and this has saved us approx. £2k per year. Last year we also benefited significantly from Government and Scottish Golf grants and Alan had to carefully complete the various application forms needed. All of this is unseen work and I’d like to thank Alan and his team for a great job.

·       When we first stared into the implications of COVID, the outlook for the club did not look positive. Initially we were staring into potential losses in excess of £100k and this was frightening.  The amount of work that went on behind the scenes by this board and Alan was incredible and there were weekly Zoom meetings where we discussed different strategies and options available. This crisis first exploded right in the middle of our subscription renewal period and you’ll recall I wrote to the members several times encouraging people to renew their membership.  The response from our members was fantastic and this was further highlighted when the Crowd Funding appeal received such incredible support too.  When the appeal was launched, we could not have anticipated that the club would achieve the financial performance that we eventually did. We benefitted extensively from grants, donations and furlough schemes which were one off benefits.  That period of financial uncertainty was frightening and brought home to me just how fragile our club reserves were and how financially exposed we were to a crisis such as this pandemic.  I won’t go into any further detail on the finances as this will be covered in the Financial Report but I wanted to highlight why I believe it is so important for our club to have financial resilience and this underpins the proposed subscriptions levels for next season.

·       Sponsorship was driven by Les Biscomb and he was supported by a great sub-committee. They identified opportunity in changing the way sponsorship was approached and focussed on a relationship-based strategy which put the prospective sponsor at the heart of the relationship. This approach worked well, sponsors responded positively,  and we achieved significant returns. Much of this money has been invested in the course and the facilities including new flags, tee collection boxes and junior equipment to name but a few. We also feel that this approach has positioned us well with our sponsors to continue this work into this season and beyond.

·       I’ve touched on the amount of work the board put in to steer the club through the rocky period. I really can’t overstate just how much time and effort the board put in and that we have arrived here in this position is testament to the skillset of the group.  I’d also like to thank the committee who also made a big contribution and as I mentioned earlier, we somehow managed to complete our full competitive fixture card (minus knock out competitions). Thanks to Mary McIntyre and her sub-committee for making this happen. I’d also like to focus on our member communication which has been excellent. Many members have given me this feedback and between Alan Frain, Ross Duncan with the odd Captains Newsletter I think we’ve kept you informed of what’s happening in an engaging and modern way i.e. Newsletters and Social Media.

Slide 4

·       It’s been incredibly difficult for our caterers to establish their business through Covid.  However, they have stuck with us and tried very hard to find ways to provide a service. They started in September 2019 and last year was to be their first summer season and this just didn’t happen. I know they are determined to be successful and we’re all hopeful that they will get the chance at some point this summer to offer the full service.

·       I’ve really missed the chance to have a good social night at the club. These are always great nights where people relax and enjoy themselves and at presentation night I get the chance to make a speech and Mrs Carruthers hands out all the trophies.  Hard lines Woody – you’ll need to play really well again this year if you want a kiss from my wife.

·       We’ve seen lots of new members join and our existing members plying more golf than ever, however with COVID there’s not been much of a chance to use the bar. This is a key area of income for the club and hopefully we’ll see this area really take off this season when restrictions start to lift.

·       After the brilliant summer is has been very frustrating that we’ve been limited in our opportunity to play golf. The recent weather has been the worst for years and has lasted way too long.  I’m also very aware of the law changes that are preventing our members from Midlothian and beyond who aren’t allowed to travel this far to play golf. These restrictions are out with our control and I’m really hoping we’ll see some movement on this very soon.

·       We lost some very prominent members last year as highlighted on the video, however as well as Donald Nisbet, Tom Litster and Derek Young, we also lost past Captain George Thorburn, Cliff Scupham, Dr Bruce Blyth and Jim McGinty. All will be sadly missed.

Gavin Carruthers | Captain – Peebles Golf Club

Review of the Year 2020

As we host our Zoom AGM this evening, we take look back at an extraordinary year at Peebles Golf Club as we emerged from lockdown and wrestled with the challenges presented by the pandemic with many positives including a surge in playing numbers, a new course record, an amazing volunteering effort, the course in superb condition and fantastic support from our sponsors...

Enjoy the highlights!

Captain's Newsletter - Merry Christmas

10th Green frost.JPG

I hope you are staying safe and well and enjoying the festive season as best you can. We’re nearing the end of an unprecedented year and certainly not the one I anticipated when I was appointed Captain back in February. However, as we reflect on what has been a challenging time for us all, I wanted to reflect on the many positive aspects that have emerged and look back with great pride on what we have achieved through a real sense of togetherness which epitomises Peebles Golf Club.

The Golf Course & Greenkeeping Team

The excellent condition of our golf course is testament to our Greenkeeping team’s effort and skill. The playability of our greens all year round highlights the fantastic progress we have made through several years of investment in time and resource on drainage and enhancing the durability of the putting surfaces. This is a big improvement from years back when winter greens were the norm in the off season.

I would like to make special mention of the hard work and dedication that Stevie Borthwick demonstrated in early lockdown. This took place whilst the other greenkeepers were furloughed, the golf course had entered the rapid growth season and Stevie’s wife had given birth to his baby boy. Stevie’s contribution ensured that we had a playable golf course available to our members when golf emerged from lockdown at the end of May.

Competitions

Our competition sub-committee did a fantastic job rearranging the schedule and we somehow managed to play all the major tournaments which seemed impossible when we were in lockdown. My own personal highlight was Club Championship week where I had the honour of starting every match in every section. The matches were all played in a great spirit and the standard of golf across all categories was exceptional. The Men’s final between Jamie Morris and Darren Howie was a wonderful event watched by a very appreciative crowd of spectators (socially distanced of course) and it was very exciting to see Darren prevail and win his first Club Championship. I’d also like to mention Darren’s historic new course record of 59 which beat his previous best by two shots.

Another mention must go to our most prolific winner of the season – Kevin Wood, who despite playing off a category 1 handicap managed to win four different handicap stroke play tournaments. Unfortunately, the current Covid climate prevented what would have been a vibrant Presentation Night, I know my wife was a little disappointed she wasn’t able to present Kevin with his haul of trophies.

Pro Shop

Our professional Steve Johnston has had a very challenging year given the impact of Covid on small businesses. However, Steve quickly adapted his business to meet the new rules and when the Club first re-opened he single-handedly kept the Pro shop open day in and day out. This meant regularly working 10 – 12 hour shifts, with little or no rest periods and I know the members will join me in thanking Steve for his efforts. We were all delighted when Bob Allan joined the Pro Shop and they have made a great team in supporting our front of house operation.

Clubhouse

The clubhouse has not been without its challenges during the pandemic, having been shut, reopened, shut again and opened with all sorts of changing restrictions. This has certainly not been easy for Willie and Freda and I’d like to thank them for their flexibility and willingness to work around these changes, the new bar hours and furlough arrangements. I’d also like to thank the Harry’s View team who have been working creatively to provide a catering service whilst complying with the many different rules and I know a lot of our members have enjoyed their variety of offerings. It has been particularly frustrating for Joe and the team given the recent escalation of lockdown restrictions. Just as they had generated some good momentum again in Level 1 and having sold out for New Year’s Day, this has unfortunately now had to be cancelled. Hopefully the new year will finally see an easing of restrictions and an opportunity for us all to enjoy food and drink in what is a great clubhouse environment.

Volunteering Efforts

One of the most pleasing aspects of this year has undoubtedly been the level of volunteering across all aspects of the club. The course and surrounding areas have never looked better, thanks to the efforts of those involved in course maintenance, gardening and other tasks, such as cleaning out the burns, painting the driving range bays, repairing divots and collecting balls. We’ve even had a new ball washer and ball dispenser case built from scratch, thanks to the fantastic efforts of Les Biscomb and Brian Smith. More on Les shortly. I’d also like to thank Gordon Beveridge and Rab Howie who recently installed our new balcony decking free of charge, aside from the cost of the materials, which turned into an even bigger job than we envisaged.

Les deserves special praise for his efforts in relation to a number of different projects which have made a significant positive impact on the club. He has created and led a very successful sponsorship sub-committee which has substantially increased our income in this area and brought in a number of new sponsors, as well as adding value for existing partners. There was also the Crowd Funding appeal which was Les’s brainchild and resulted in an incredible show of support from many members and wider benefactors, raising over £11k at what was a difficult period for the club, and demonstrated the strength of support that our Club enjoys. A big thanks also to all our sponsors who have stood by the Club this season and it’s great to see their names displayed on the TV screens in the foyer.

Missing our Members!

I would also like to make a special mention of our members who live outwith the Scottish Borders, who have been unable to travel to Peebles to play golf in recent weeks because of the latest restrictions. It is my sincere hope that these are eased in the very near future so that we can play golf with all our friends again. Haste ye back!

Office Team

My last note of thanks goes to our Secretary, Alan Frain and his office team of Sarah Waldie and Pam Sherrard. Throughout the dark days of lockdown and in the period since, there has been no let-up in administration and office work. The recent World Handicap System migration is just one example of a change that required significant administrative effort. The way in which Alan has re-organised our office function to incorporate home working and other initiatives has enabled his team to provide a consistently high level of service throughout such a turbulent year. Alan’s leadership and direction has been invaluable in assisting the Board of Directors and General Committee to achieve our ongoing objectives.

Financial Update

Turning lastly to our financial position, our draft results for the year now indicate a fairly healthy position having made a surplus for the financial year which is quite remarkable given the potential scenario we were facing back in April.  The demand for golf has been substantial and while there have been many restrictions placed on our business this year, we have benefited from the various forms of financial relief which have been available to us during the pandemic which have supplemented other financial measures we’ve taken internally.

Our cash reserves and balance sheet are now in a much healthier position going into 2021 while at the same time we’ve also continued to restructure and reallocate our cost base.  Specifically, having reduced a number of administrative, maintenance, and service costs this year, including external accounting fees, I am delighted to announce that we now feel we are able to budget for an additional full-time qualified greenkeeper for next season who will provide valuable support to Stevie and his team.   As part of our continued focus on improving the golf course, we’re also planning a cash investment of £20,000 in new greenkeeping equipment.  Specifically, Stevie is in the throes of procuring a new turf iron and will then turn his attention to the purchase of a new greens mower, both of which will help to further enhance the ever improving condition of our greens.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is very much focused on consolidating our financial position going forward, and we must stay alert to the many headwinds that face our business, not least the continuation of the pandemic restrictions going into 2021.  As we’ve communicated previously, we also continue to face the longer-term challenge of the age demographic of the Club, which for a number of years now, has resulted in a gradual depletion of our membership base.  However, we are acutely aware of the challenges posed by these issues and so won’t sit idlely by and let these things push us to the brink, but rather we will continue to take robust and decisive steps to manage these issues.

As well as further investment in the course, we’re also increasing our marketing budget / activities next year under the expert direction of Ross Duncan, and we’re very hopeful that these combined efforts will improve member retention and recruitment next season as well as generating an increase in visitor numbers.  As we’ve also discussed recently, the Board is very keen to increase non-golf revenue in the future, and with a return to some degree of normality hopefully not too far away now, we’re hoping to increase the number of clubhouse functions and events next year in an effort to improve bar activity.  The financial benefits of these initiatives will, however, take some time to come to fruition and so with a need to balance the budget for 2021 now, we have decided it would be prudent to moderately increase member subscriptions and visitor fees again next season.

These were hard decisions to make but as a Board, we strive to keep golf affordable to all our members while at the same time prudently managing for the club’s future.  And so again, we’ll seek to find the right balance when we set out our fee proposals to our membership at the upcoming AGM in February which I anticipate will be held via Zoom.

Finally, I’d like to thank my fellow Board Directors, Ross Duncan, Grant Foster and Chris Patterson for their continued service to the club.  Like others, the Directors have given up a substantial amount of their time this year and besides providing us with strong governance and strategic oversight, I know each of them care very deeply about the club and its members. The Board will be further strengthened in the new year with the appointment of David Thorburn, our current Junior Convenor.  I am delighted David has agreed to join the Board, he is a well-known local businessman and has been a member at the club for 40 years.

In closing, I would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support of Peebles Golf Club and hope you stay safe and healthy and enjoy a Merry Christmas. I look forward to catching up with many of you in the New Year on the course and in the clubhouse.

Yours in golf

Gavin Carruthers | Captain

Interview with Head Greenkeeper: Stevie Borthwck

DSC_1341.JPG

Hear from our Head Greenkeeper Stevie Borthwick as he approaches what has certainly been a unique year in the job but one where the team has risen to the challenge with the course receiving great feedback from members and visitors alike, and the greens still in excellent condition going into the winter period.

A big thank you to Stevie, Jacob and Lewis for their hard work and dedication this year, as well as the team of volunteers who have made such an important contribution in supporting them with work in and around the course...!

Clubhouse Opening Hours: From 2nd November

Clubhouse Backdrop.JPG

Clubhouse Opening Hours: From 2nd November

Following the Scottish Government’s announcement last week, we know that the Scottish Borders will move into Tier 2 from Monday 2nd November.

This will provide us with more flexibility around our food and drinks offering than currently. Notably, we will be able to serve alcoholic drinks indoors up to 8 pm, if they are accompanied by a “substantial” meal. With friends and family still not permitted to meet in each-others houses, the clubhouse offers a welcome and safe environment to meet socially and we will extend our opening hours for both the bar and Harry’s View catering to provide a daily service. Please note that the rule of 6 will still apply in the clubhouse with a maximum of two households sitting together (children under 12 are not included within the rule of 6).

From Monday our opening hours will be:

  • Monday to Wednesday - 11 am to 3 pm

  • Thursday - 11 am to 3 pm & 5 pm to 8 pm

  • Friday and Saturday - 11 am to 8 pm

  • Sunday - 12 noon to 6 pm

Please note that Harry’s View will be on site at approximately 10 am every morning (i.e. before the bar opens). This is primarily to undertake food preparation, but they are happy to serve breakfast food and coffee/tea if requested.

Harry’s View will be continuing with their “Two Courses for £10 Deal” as well as offering a simple meal in the bar (e.g. pie, beans, and chips). Sunday will see the return of their “Sunday Roast Deal” for £12 per head.

So, provided you have a bite to eat, there is no need for you to brave the cold on the balcony whilst you sup your pint!

Pro Shop Opening Hours

As we move into the winter season, the Pro Shop will amend its opening hours as follows:

November and December

  • Monday - Closed
