It is with regret that I announce the resignation of Gary Moore as the club’s resident caterer. Gary’s final day will be this Sunday, and we wish him well in his future endeavours.
Thankfully, we’ve been able to secure short-term cover through Linda Robertson who will be taking over the reins from Tuesday 15 January through to the end of March. Many of you will be familiar with Linda already as she has been working with Gary at the club over the last few months. Linda also owns her own catering business in Peebles.
Linda and her team will provide catering from 9.30am to 3.00pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays, offering a range of short order items including soup, breakfast rolls, sandwiches, paninis, cakes and scones. We’ll also be looking at options for evening and Sunday catering, although we’re aware the next three months are generally a quiet period for the club in any case.
Event catering will also be covered during this period, including our Burns Night (Saturday 26 January), Night Golf Event (Saturday 9 February) and Past-Captain’s Dinner (Friday 8 March). The Club remains available for functions and other bookings, so please get in touch with Niall if there is anything we can help you with and he can discuss requirements with you.
We remain committed to providing our members and visitors with a full restaurant and catering service and the Board is now looking at a range of options to ensure a sustainable catering arrangement for the future. Unfortunately, we’ve now had two established caterers leave the club in fairly quick succession with both unable to generate a sufficient level of business to make it a long-term success.
We still believe the catering opportunity at Peebles Golf Club remains an attractive one, with our recently refurbished clubhouse one of the best venues in town. A vibrant catering service is vital for the health of the club, not only does it improve the ambiance of the clubhouse but the revenue it generates is critical to our economic model, including continued investment in our course and other facilities.
To help enable greater use, one of the options we intend to look at is the potential adoption of an ‘open-door’ policy, which would give non-members greater access to our restaurant, subject to certain restrictions. Peebles Golf Club prides itself on being at the heart of the local community and while our members will always be our first priority, we would consider providing broader access if we felt this would be to the overall benefit of the club. Such a policy would need careful consideration of course, and we intend to speak to other clubs that have adopted a similar type of model.
Throughout this process, we’d also like to speak to as many members as possible to help us shape our future plans. As part of this, we encourage you to send e-mails or phone the club with your thoughts, suggestions and feedback. Following this consultation process, the Board will then present its recommendations to the members at the AGM on Tuesday 12 February, where we’ll also be inviting a representative from Scottish Golf to help facilitate the session.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of Peebles Golf Club, wish you a Happy New Year and hope you have a successful season on the golf course in 2019!
Kind regards
Ross Duncan - Club Captain
